• Creation of a panhellenic-based excellence infrastructure based on state-of-the-art technologies for conservation, protection against pests and proper exploitation of the country’s plant life
  • Recording of the existing biodiversity and genetic characterization of important species of aromatic, medicinal plants and native food plants
  • Recording of the chemical diversity in the Greek herbal capital and keeping the data in appropriate national biobanks
  • Development and production of certified propagating material for aromatic, medicinal plants and native plants which can be used for cultivation
  • Implementation of innovative technologies, production and cultivation systems (hydroponics, aeronautics) for important types of aromatic and medicinal plants, local traditional varieties and native plants
  • Study of plant pests, in terms of biology and their interactions with plants, aiming to develop tools and strategies that will contribute to the prevention / management of diseases they cause in agricultural and natural ecosystems
  • Sustainability study of processes related to industrial scale “green” production of Natural Products and derivatives of high added value through innovative pharmaceutical exploitation techniques, as food supplements and cosmetic preparations.
  • Strengthening human resources, skills and working conditions related to research and innovation to harness the potential of individuals and provide new career prospects.
  • Develop new and long-term research collaborations, transfer knowledge among research institutions and improve research and innovation at international level.
